چکیده

The pest cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) exhibits polymorphism with flight and flightless forms that differ in morphology life-history. Flight are generally dispersers lower fecundity increase frequency when population density intraspecific competition both high. larvae can cause important damage to stored grains the solitary ectoparasitoid Dinarmus basalis (Rondani) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) is considered be a good candidate biological control agent. However, whether morphs likelihood of their offspring surviving attack unknown. Understanding this has implications for status following control. We found by D. lowered number emerging produced morphs. was most effective at reducing survival morph parents, suggesting there may further cost dispersal C. maculatus. Parental type did not influence behavior or development foraging, so mechanism resulting difference remains unclear. Nevertheless, our study shows affects morphs, as required an biocontrol These results contribute understanding how variation, including polymorphism, influences species interactions among agents target insect pests.

Functional Response of Dinarmus Basalis (rond.) (hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) Parasitizing Callosobruchus Maculatus (f.)

The functional response of the parasitoid Dinarmus basalis (Rond.) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) is determined to evaluate its potential as a biological control agent. Four female wasps in the presence of males parasitoids, were allowed to oviposit during their life span or hosts at different densities. The data were fit by Rogers′ (1972) parasitoid model. The rate of parasitoid search was a′= 0....

Facultative Hyperparasitism: Extreme Survival Behaviour of the Primary Solitary Ectoparasitoid, Dinarmus basalis

This study investigated the egg-laying behaviour of ectoparsitoid, Dinarmus basalis Rondani (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), females when faced with a prolonged deprivation of suitable hosts leading to extreme 'oviposition pressure'. The egg-laying behaviour of virgin D. basalis females was tested with Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) hosts previously parasitized by the conspec...

Maternal age affects offspring lifespan of the seed beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus

1. Offspring from older parents often have shorter adult lifespans than offspring of younger mothers. We examine the effects of offspring genotype, maternal age and paternal age on offspring survival, development and adult lifespan in the seed beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus . 2. Females took about a quarter of a day longer to develop from an egg to an adult and lived ≈ 7 days longer than male...

Characterization of cowpea genotype resistance to Callosobruchus maculatus

The objective of this work was to characterize the resistance of 50 cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) genotypes to Callosobruchus maculatus. A completely randomized design with five replicates per treatment (genotype) was used. No‐choice tests were performed using the 50 cowpea genotypes to evaluate the preference for oviposition and the development of the weevil. The genotypes IT85 F‐2687, MN05‐841 B...

The effect of age on sperm stock and egg laying in the parasitoid wasp, Dinarmus basalis

Sperm quantity and quality during storage may be constraints acting on female fecundity and hence fitness. In Hymenoptera, the importance of sperm quality has rarely been considered, despite its central role in reproductive strategies and especially in sex ratio control. In these insects, fertilized eggs develop into females and unfertilized eggs into males. Experiments were conducted on the fe...
